Detergents and Lipids
The Anatrace® product line provides researchers with a wide variety of detergents and lipids for protein applications. Starting with solutions for extraction, Anapoe® detergents won’t cleave or damage proteins. In aqueous media, our unique Fos-Cholines®, Amphipol A8-35, and BisMalts (Bolaamphiphiles) provide answers to protein solubility and stabilization challenges. For crystallization trials, try our NG Class Detergents or Lipidic Cubic Phase solutions. Anatrace products can help you in every stage of membrane protein research.
Detergent Kits
Choosing the right detergent or combination of detergents for a specific membrane protein is not always easy. We offer a variety of solid- and solution-based detergent kits to simplify the process.
Heavy Atom Detergents
Deuterated detergents |Selenium detergents
We offer an array of deuterated and seleniated detergents to help you solve protein structure. Both fully (perdeuterated) and semi-deuterated detergents are NMR silent. The dense selenium atoms can be used to create reference points for X-ray crystallography.

Ionic Detergents
Ionic detergents are effective at extracting proteins from membranes. They are characterized by their harsh nature and tend to denature single protein units and disrupt protein-protein interactions. Ionic detergents have anionic or cationic hydrophilic head groups.
Lipids and Lipid-likes
Bicelles |Cholesterols |Lipid-like detergents |Lipids |Lysolipids
After extraction, protein stability is essential for subsequent structural biology work. We offer a variety of lipids and lipid-like surfactants to stabilize extracted proteins or for transfer into a membrane-like environment for NMR. FosCholine, DHPC, BisMalt, and Chobimalt are among the most popular.

Molecular Biology Detergents
In addition to specialty surfactants, we also offer a range of common detergents that are well suited for initial protein extraction and a variety of other molecular biology applications.
Non-ionic Detergents
Alkyl Glycosides |Glucosides |HEGAs |Maltosides |MEGAs |Neopentyl Glycol (NG) Class Detergents |Polyoxyethylene Glycols |Thioglucosides |Thiomaltosides
Non-ionic detergents provide a good starting point for your structural biology work. The hydrophilic head groups offer ample strength to extract proteins while still providing the capability to stabilize proteins in solution and promote crystal growth.

Specialty Detergents
Amphipol for Refolding |Crystallography |Extraction - Anapoes |NG Class
Anatrace detergents are well suited for specific application needs. Labs using X-ray crystallization techniques should consider NG Class Detergents for their ability to transfer proteins into the LCP and promote crystal growth. When stabilizing proteins in aqueous solutions, amphipathic surfactants such as Amphipol A8-35 are recommended.
Texts
We are pleased to offer a small selection of membrane protein reference books to our researchers.

Zwitterionic Detergents
Amine Oxides |Dimethyl Glycines |Zwittergents
Zwitterionic detergents contain both a positive and negative charge in their hydrophilic head group. In NMR-based structural studies of membrane proteins, start with the clarity of Anatrace detergents and finish with greater resolution.
